Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has called for people to speak up about the citizenship and voting rights of Muslims in India, as well as protecting the rights of Hindus in Bangladesh.

He made the call in a Facebook post on Friday.

In the post, Patwary said many people do not talk about recovering land taken from Hindus. In the same way, he said, many stay silent about allegations that people in India are being struck off the voter roll because they are Muslim.

“Rights and justice can never be decided by religion, race or borders,” he said. “Just as we must speak up for the rights of Hindus in Bangladesh, we must also speak about the citizenship and voting rights of Muslims in India.”

“There must be the same stand against the seizure of the property of every religious institution, including mosques, madrasas, temples and churches,” Patwary added. “Whatever someone’s religious identity, seizing their property or taking away their rights is in no way acceptable.”

“The stand against injustice must be universal, and justice must be ensured for everyone,” he said.
