JAMALPUR, Bangladesh — Three passengers of a battery-powered auto-rickshaw were killed and five others injured when a covered van rammed the vehicle from behind in Jamalpur, police said.
The crash occurred Monday, Oct. 27, at noon on the Jamalpur-Tangail road at Digpait, said Najmus Sakib, officer in charge of Jamalpur Sadar police station.
A covered van traveling from Jamalpur to Tangail struck the auto-rickshaw from behind in the Digpait export processing zone area, Sakib said. The auto-rickshaw was crushed, killing one passenger on the spot. Local residents rescued seven people, including a child, and rushed them to Jamalpur General Hospital, where two more died, the officer said.
