NETROKONA — A 25-year-old man died of electric shock while pumping water from a canal in Atpara upazila on Monday night, police said.
Hridoy Mia, son of Sajlu Mia of Kaliakhali village in Shunai union, was electrocuted around 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, at a canal in his village, police said.
Hridoy was pumping water from the canal to catch fish when a fault developed in the electrical connection of the pump and he was electrocuted, neighbors said. Relatives and neighbors took him to Netrokona Sadar Hospital but he died on the way, they said.
Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, the inspector for investigation at Atpara police station, confirmed the death. “He was electrocuted while irrigating,” he said. “An unnatural death case has been filed.”
