CHATTOGRAM — Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Ershad Ullah was shot while campaigning in the Hamzarbagh area of Chattogram’s Bayezid police station on Wednesday afternoon. He is the party’s candidate in the Chattogram-8 (Bakalia-Boalkhali) constituency. Ershad Ullah was rushed to a private hospital after being wounded.

Local sources said Ershad Ullah left his campaign office with party workers around 4:30 p.m. for an election outreach event. When they reached the Hamzarbagh area, unidentified attackers opened fire, wounding him. One person was also shot dead at the scene, according to reports, although the identity of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (North) Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam told Amar Desh that Ershad Ullah had been admitted to a hospital with gunshot wounds. “We have heard reports of one person killed in this incident, but we are not yet certain,” Islam said.

A doctor at Evercare Hospital said Ershad Ullah was hit on the left side of his chest and that his condition was critical. BNP leaders and activists gathered at the hospital after the attack. The party strongly condemned the shooting and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
