DHAKA — Md. Sujan, the rickshaw puller who drew attention during last year’s July uprising, has collected a National Citizen Party (NCP) nomination form to contest the Dhaka-8 parliamentary seat.
Sujan collected the nomination form Thursday evening, Nov. 20, at the NCP’s temporary office.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Sujan said: “Those who steal money from orphans and put on dramatic acts can go to Parliament. Why can’t I, a rickshaw puller, go to Parliament?”
Nasiruddin Patwary, head of NCP’s election management committee and chief coordinator, and senior joint member secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara were present at the event.
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas has received the BNP nomination for the Dhaka-8 seat. Advocate Helal Uddin received the Jamaat-e-Islami nomination. Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesman for the Inquilab Mancha, has announced he will contest the seat as an independent.
