National Citizens Party (NCP) northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam said the banned Awami League is a killer, autocratic and genocidal party. He said the Awami League has fallen and been buried in India, so that chapter is closed, and therefore no comparison can be made between the BNP and the Awami League.
He made the remarks Wednesday (Sept. 9) morning while responding to reporters’ questions after an organizational coordination meeting and political workshop organized by the NCP’s Bhola district unit at the Bhola District Council auditorium.
Sarjis Alam said they would continue to hold tough discussions and criticism of the BNP. He said if the BNP engages in extortion or land grabbing, they would call that out too, but they would not compare the BNP with the Awami League.
He added that they were not at all satisfied with the BNP’s performance over the past six months, saying the party was gradually going off track. He said the BNP was abusing power, and pointed to partisan appointments and favoritism everywhere they looked, including placing party loyalists who passed written exams into quota-reserved government jobs. He described this as the party’s old playbook and said it needed to move away from it. He said they would offer reasoned criticism, but if the BNP failed to change course, they would launch tough street programs against its actions. He added that if the BNP failed to implement the outcome of the referendum, it would not be possible to keep it in power for a full five-year term.
Earlier at the coordination meeting, he gave party leaders and activists various directives on running the organization. He also called for forming committees at the upazila, thana and union levels across the district.
Also present were joint convener of the central committee Sarwar Tushar, divisional organizing secretaries Advocate Mujahidul Islam Shaheen and Shahadat Khandaker Manju, central committee members Kazi Salman and Raihanul Islam, Bhola district president Maksudur Rahman, and other local leaders and activists.
