DHAKA — Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s health remains unchanged and her medical board has not recommended sending her abroad for treatment, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Sunday.
“No decision on this matter can be taken without the board’s advice,” Rizvi said.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, also a former prime minister, remains in critical condition with no improvement in her health, Rizvi told an emergency news conference at Naya Paltan in the capital.
BNP has suspended all programs for December, the month of victory, because of Khaleda Zia’s illness, Rizvi said. The party has urged people across the country to pray for her recovery.
Addressing the gathering of BNP activists and members of the public outside the hospital, Rizvi said overcrowding disrupts medical care. “We are requesting everyone not to crowd in front of the hospital. Pray from wherever you are,” he said.
Doctors are in regular contact with party leaders, and the medical board provides comprehensive updates on the BNP chairperson’s condition, Rizvi said.
