A meeting on building youth initiative was held in Nilphamari.
It took place at midday on Sunday (25 October) at the auditorium of the development organisation USS in the town, under the Shomotay Tarunno (youth for equality) project. The youth group Notun Onuprerona Youth Association organised it.
USS executive director Bhuban Chandra Roy opened the meeting, which was chaired by Chhobi Rani Das, president of Notun Onuprerona Youth Association. Speakers included Satyendra Nath Roy, a trainer at the district Department of Youth Development; Abdul Jabbar, an official of Dost Aid Bangladesh; and Nur Alam, former general secretary of the Nilphamari Press Club.
The speakers said young people can bring change to society. If they take a direct part in social work alongside their studies, they said, society’s ills can be overcome. Young people who help prevent child marriage and violence against women, fight gender discrimination and build their skills in information technology can establish themselves and bring positive change to society at the same time, they said.
In all, 30 young people took part in the meeting with local government authorities, which covered gender equality, digital safety and media awareness.
