A father and his daughter, both passengers on a battery-run auto-van, were killed when a speeding pickup ran them over in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj.
The accident happened on Sunday morning (October 25) at a place called Gerakhola on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the upazila.
The dead are Saiful Islam Ranju, 45, son of Hemayet Molla of Pabanbeg village in Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur, and his daughter Samira Akter, 6.
According to Muksudpur police and local sources, a pickup carrying fish towards Gopalganj ran over an auto-van coming from the opposite direction and drove off. Ranju and Samira, who were on the auto-van, were seriously injured. Local people rescued them and took them to the Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Muksudpur police station, confirmed the incident and said the bodies of the father and daughter were handed over to their family after legal procedures.
