Police have detained Abdul Mannan, an Awami League leader and union parishad member, in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore.
He was detained on Thursday night in a raid in the Kharincha Bazar area of the upazila. Mannan is the member for Ward 9 of Swarupdaha union and president of the ward Awami League. He is the son of the late Abdul Kader of Kharincha village.
Local residents said that during the previous Awami League government he filed a case as complainant over an alleged bomb attack in the Kharincha Dakhil Madrasa area. Around 50 BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists were named as accused in that case.
Kazi Babul Hossain, the newly appointed officer-in-charge of Chaugachha police station, confirmed the detention.
