Financial incentives, bicycles and sewing machines were distributed among members of ethnic minority communities in Chaugachha, Jashore, aimed at improving their livelihoods and boosting self-reliance. The distribution event was held Wednesday afternoon at the upazila hall room, organized by the Chaugachha upazila administration.
Upazila Executive Officer Farzana Islam presided over the event.
Under the government’s development program, 11 selected beneficiaries from ethnic minority communities each received 3,000 taka in cash assistance, six received 5,000 taka each, and five received 7,000 taka each. Bicycles and sewing machines were also distributed.
Also present were upazila BNP president M A Salam, upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Golam Morshed, upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad convener and freedom fighter Wazed Ali, upazila Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Maulana Nurul Islam, municipal BNP president Selim Reza Awlia, officials from various upazila administration offices, political leaders and local dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Farzana Islam said government assistance plays an important role in improving the lives of disadvantaged and underprivileged communities. Bicycles, in particular, will make it easier for students to commute, she said, while sewing machines will help women pursue self-employment, making it easier for both groups to become self-reliant. She added that the financial incentives would help boost the economic capacity of ethnic minority families.
