The death toll from measles and measles-like illness in Bangladesh continues to climb. Four more people died of the disease in the past 24 hours. With this, the total number of deaths from measles and its symptoms since March 15 is now nearing 1,000.
According to a measles-related bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Saturday, 917 people were affected by measles and measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, during which four people died.
According to DGHS data, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh this year has risen to 991. Of these, 100 were confirmed measles deaths, while 891 died with measles-like symptoms.
In addition, 843 suspected measles cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected infections so far to 163,105.
DGHS data shows that since March 15 this year, a total of 143,214 patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide with measles-like symptoms. Of these, 137,921 have recovered and returned home.
