Import and export operations have resumed at Sonamasjid land port after an eight-day closure for the Eid ul-Adha holiday.
Operations through the port began on Wednesday morning (June 3), according to land port authorities.
Confirming the development, Tipu Sultan, public relations officer of Panama Sonamasjid Port Link Limited, said that under a joint decision of the Sonamasjid Importers and Exporters Group and the Sonamasjid Land Port C&F Agent Association, all import and export operations at the port had been suspended from May 26 to June 2 for the Eid ul-Adha holiday. During that period, however, the immigration checkpost and related departments remained open under a special arrangement to keep the movement of passport-holding passengers smooth.
He added that all port operations had been running normally since Wednesday morning after the holiday. India-Bangladesh commercial cargo trucks had already begun moving, and the port had returned to its usual activity.
