Two JnU Chhatra Dal leaders show-caused over clash

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s central committee has issued show-cause notices to two leaders of its Jagannath University (JnU) unit over a clash between two factions at the unit’s freshers’-welcome and concert event. The notices were issued on Thursday (September 17) on the central Chhatra Dal’s official letterhead.

The two leaders show-caused are Suman Sardar, joint convener No. 1 of the JnU unit Chhatra Dal, and Mostafizur Rahman Rumi, joint convener No. 2. The notices, sent by the central committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, ask the two leaders why permanent organisational disciplinary action should not be taken against them over allegations of violating organisational discipline. The notices state that within the next 24 hours, the two must appear in person at the organisation’s central office, in the presence of the central committee’s president and general secretary, to give a written explanation. The notices further state that Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir issued the directive.

The notices follow a clash on Wednesday (September 16) night between two factions of the JnU unit Chhatra Dal, during a concert the unit had organised, near the Kathaltala area in front of the university’s Social Science building. At least three people were injured in the clash, two of them with head injuries, according to eyewitnesses. The injured were treated at Dhaka National Medical College Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the tension began during the concert over seating on the stage, when an argument and pushing broke out between a member of one Chhatra Dal group and a member of another. The clash then spread to the Kathaltala area in front of the Social Science building. The JnU unit Chhatra Dal has not officially disclosed the specific cause of the tension and the clash.
