12 hurt as rival BNP factions clash, loot homes in Jhinaidah’s Shailkupa

A clash between two BNP factions over local dominance and political rivalry in Jhinaidah’s Shailkupa led to the vandalizing and looting of six homes, including shops. The incident occurred Saturday morning in Dalilpur village in Bogura union. At least 12 people from both sides, including children, were injured.

According to local residents, a long-running dispute over local dominance had been simmering between supporters of former Bogura Union Parishad chairman and BNP leader Rakibul Islam Khan Dipu, and Bogura union BNP president Jamir Hossain. Following this, people from both sides clashed face-to-face Saturday morning armed with homemade weapons.

The injured were admitted to Jhinaidah Sadar Hospital and the upazila health complex. One person was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Shailkupa police station’s officer-in-charge, Humayun Kabir Molla, said police reached the scene quickly after being informed and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in Dalilpur village to prevent any further unwanted situation. The area is currently calm.
