The long-held hope of MPO-listed teachers and staff to be paid at the start of the month is about to be met. After taking office, education minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon promised to pay salaries at the start of the month, and those involved say the step has been taken within six months.

Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) sources said the proposal for September salaries and allowances was approved on Tuesday (September 29). The salary data will be sent to iBAS on Wednesday, and once the process is complete, teachers and staff may receive September pay on Thursday (October 1).

“On the education minister’s instructions, we are trying to pay salaries at the start of the month. We hope teachers will get their pay on October 1 this time,” a DSHE official said.

Nearly 375,000 MPO-listed teachers and staff received their August salaries on September 3. Teachers and staff say being paid at the start of the month will make it easier to plan for rent, children’s education and other expenses.
