Separate pay order for MPO teachers coming soon

Government teachers are receiving the direct benefit of the new pay structure under the ninth national pay scale, meaning they are covered by the gazette published on Saturday. A separate notification for teachers and staff at MPO-listed institutions and for university teachers will be published shortly.

These points emerged in the gazette issued on Saturday for the ninth pay scale. Although the gazette is dated September 17, it was received on Saturday afternoon.

The gazette for the Services (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026 covering government officials and employees has already been issued.

According to the published gazette, sources concerned said the new pay scale will be implemented for teachers and staff at MPO-listed private educational institutions and for university teachers through a separately issued notification.

The new pay has taken effect from July 1 this year, but will be implemented in full in stages. From July 1 to December 31 this year, officers in grade 9 and above will receive 40 percent of the additional basic pay under the new structure, while officers and employees in grades 10 to 20 will receive 50 percent of the additional basic pay over the same period. That amount will be added to the pay drawn or due on June 30.

The next stage of the new structure then takes effect from January 1 to June 30, 2027. During that period, officers in grade 9 and above will receive 70 percent of the additional basic pay and officers and employees in grades 10 to 20 will receive 75 percent.

From July 1, 2027, the entire increase under the new pay structure takes effect in full. Because the new structure has been effective from July 1 this year, officials and employees will also receive arrears of the increased pay due to them from that date.

The notification also fixes when the various allowances under the new structure take effect. It says government officials and employees will begin receiving all the other allowances under the new pay structure from January 1, 2028. Pension recipients will likewise come under all the benefits of the new structure.

The new structure brings notable changes to government employees’ basic pay. Basic pay for officers from grade 1 to grade 10 will rise by up to 100 percent, while basic pay for officials and employees in grades 11 to 20 will rise by up to 142 percent.
