Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 24 tons of fertilizer being smuggled toward India in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria. Members of BGB’s 25th Battalion recovered the fertilizer in an operation in the upazila’s Islampur area on Thursday (Aug. 27) afternoon. No one could be detained in the operation.
The information was shared in a press release sent by BGB on Friday (Aug. 28) morning.
Lt. Col. Jabbar Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB’s 25th Battalion, said a special BGB patrol team, acting on secret information, conducted the operation about 5 kilometers inside Bangladesh from border pillar 2001/MP, in the Islampur area of Bijoynagar upazila. Searching a truck, they recovered 9.5 tons of TSP fertilizer and 14.5 tons of DAP fertilizer.
He further said no valid paperwork was found for the fertilizer in the truck upon inspection. It is believed the fertilizer had been stockpiled for illegal smuggling into India. The process of handing over the truck, along with the recovered fertilizer, to the Akhaura Customs Office is underway.
