Three friends riding a motorcycle were killed after being hit by a speeding, unidentified bus in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday, August 29, on the Bhanga-Faridpur highway in the Nowpara area of Bhanga municipality.
The deceased were Chayan, 23, Noyon, 20, and Siam, alias Sajib, 22, all from Hasnahati village in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda upazila. The three were close friends.
According to local sources, the three friends were riding together on one motorcycle toward their destination Saturday evening. When they reached the Nowpara area, a speeding bus coming from behind hit them and fled the scene quickly. Chayan died at the scene.
Local residents rescued Noyon and Siam, who were critically injured, and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where they died overnight while under treatment.
Local resident Sagor Mirza said: “Accidents like this happen because of reckless driving. Police patrols and monitoring on the road need to be stepped up.”
Police said the motorcycle involved in the accident was a TVS Apache 4V model and was unregistered.
Bhanga Highway Police sub-inspector (SI) Sohel Khan said a case is being processed over the incident. Police are trying to identify the unidentified vehicle that struck the three friends.
Five road accidents have occurred in Bhanga upazila over the past week. At least nine deaths have been reported from these incidents so far.
