Police in Senbagh, Noakhali, recovered a homemade pipe gun, a cartridge and two machetes during a raid. A young man identified as Md. Zabed Hossain, 30, was arrested on charges of illegally possessing weapons.
District police Additional Superintendent (Crime and Ops) Ahmed Peyar confirmed the matter Monday afternoon.
The raid was carried out around 2:15 a.m. Sunday night into Monday at the home of Kala Mia in the Bishnupur area, Ward No. 8, Nabipur union, Senbagh upazila. Zabed Hossain, who was arrested, is the son of Md. Sirajuddin Mintoo of the same village.
Police said Senbagh police station has been conducting regular operations to recover illegal weapons under the overall direction of District Superintendent of Police N.M. Nasiruddin. As part of this effort, police raided Zabed’s home based on a tip-off. A search of his bedroom turned up a homemade iron-and-wood pipe gun, a cartridge and two machetes hidden under the bed. He was subsequently arrested on charges of possessing illegal weapons and equipment.
Additional Superintendent Ahmed Peyar further said a case has been filed against the arrested accused at Senbagh police station under the Arms Act. He has been shown arrested in that case and handed over to the Noakhali chief judicial magistrate’s court.
