The eviction drive against those illegally operating businesses on footpaths will continue. Anyone who returns to the footpath after eviction will face legal action, and arrest if necessary.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator and freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam told reporters this while overseeing a drive Tuesday, September 1, in the Bakshibazar to Chankharpul area of the capital, part of the city corporation’s cleanliness, revenue collection and mosquito-control operations.
The DSCC administrator said: “Today, we’ll give most people a warning and some time. If, within that time, they don’t clean up and stay in compliance with the law, we’ll be forced to take legal action at the next stage.”
He said instructions would be given to keep the road and footpath clean from Bakshibazar to Chankharpul. Those doing business on the footpath will be told to move off it. At the same time, those without a trade license will be asked to obtain one, and those whose licenses have lapsed will be asked to renew them.
He further said: “We don’t want to take any action. If you follow the law yourselves and handle everything properly, we won’t want to take any action.” Noting that the city corporation’s mosquito-control, health and sanitation department staff would carry out the operation, he asked for residents’ cooperation.
