Every union to get a permanent playground: minister

A permanent playground will be built in every union to spread sports across all levels of the country, youth and sports junior minister Md Aminul Haque has said. He also said ongoing mini-stadium construction work at the upazila level would be completed quickly.

He made the remarks as chief guest at the final of the “Habibullah Chokdar Memorial Football Tournament-2026,” organised by the Shariatullah Habib Memorial Foundation, held on Friday (September 11) afternoon at Habibullah College ground in Shariatpur’s Sakhipur.

Junior minister Md Aminul Haque said sports would help build a healthy and wholesome society, and that various government initiatives are under way to involve the country’s younger generation in sports. Alongside building permanent playgrounds in every union, mini-stadium construction at the upazila level would be finished quickly, he said. He added that through sports, the government hopes to build a prosperous and humane Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Shariatpur-2 constituency MP Md Shafiqur Rahman Kiron attended as the event’s inaugurator. Special guests included Shariatpur-1 constituency MP Saeed Ahmed Aslam, Shariatpur district council administrator Sardar AKM Nasir Uddin Kalu, superintendent of police Rownak Jahan, and Bhedarganj upazila nirbahi officer Md Abu Bakar Siddique. The final drew considerable enthusiasm among local sports fans, with a large crowd turning out to watch and enjoy the match.
