A court in Nilphamari has sentenced a 56-year-old man, Mokhsed Ali Pramanik, to rigorous life imprisonment for raping a second-grade student. He was also fined 50,000 taka. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday (September 16) afternoon by Masud Karim, judge of the district judge court’s Child Violence Suppression Tribunal and senior district and sessions judge. The convicted Mokhsed is the son of the late Bachra Pramanik of South Sonakhuli Tehsildar Para village in Saidpur upazila.
According to court sources, the second-grade student was playing with Mokhsed’s granddaughter in the yard of his house on the afternoon of August 29, 2025. With the house empty at the time, Mokhsed called the child inside on the pretext of having her help mop the floor, and raped her, according to the case’s allegations. When the child told her family what had happened, her father filed a case at Saidpur police station as the plaintiff. After hearing evidence and testimony, the court delivered its verdict within a year.
Following the verdict, the victim’s father said: “We thank the judiciary for delivering the verdict so quickly. If victims receive justice this fast, incidents like rape will decrease. We are satisfied with this verdict.”
Asaduzzaman Khan Rino, public prosecutor for the Child Violence Suppression Tribunal, confirmed the verdict, saying that since the charge was proven under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000, the court sentenced the accused to rigorous life imprisonment and a 50,000-taka fine. He said the court delivered its verdict within just one year of hearing the case’s evidence and testimony, and ordered that the fine be paid to the victim. The public prosecutor said the victim’s father had thanked the judiciary and the government for the speedy trial.
