Two people died in separate accidents in Nilphamari’s Domar upazila — a young child and Kashem Ali, 75.
The two accidents occurred Sunday morning, August 30, in the upazila’s Domar Sadar and Sonaray unions.
According to local and police sources, the two-year-old son of Rabiul Islam, a jhalmuri seller from Chairmanpara village in Domar Sadar union, wandered off to play unnoticed in the morning and fell into a pond beside their house. Family members rescued him and took him to Domar Upazila Health Complex, where the physician on duty declared him dead.
Separately, in the Bhangarir Jhar area of Sonaray union, Kashem Ali died after being struck by a train while going to check on his paddy field near the rail line. He was a resident of Modhyapara village and a former employee of the Debiganj Seed Potato Production Farm.
Local residents said that while going to check his paddy field in the morning, he was struck and killed at the scene by the Sheemanto Express (747 Up) train, traveling from Khulna to Chilahati.
Upon receiving the news, police and railway police inspected the scene.
The two separate accidents have cast a pall of grief over the area.
