A mobile court has sentenced four young men to jail for smoking cannabis in the Shoshan Ghat (crematorium) area of Kalia, Narail. Each was sentenced to three months in prison and fined 500 taka.
Executive Magistrate of the mobile court and Kalia Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Jinnatul Islam issued the jail order Thursday (Sept. 10) afternoon.
Those sentenced are Shihab Lashkar, 38, son of Mannan Laskar of Haridanga village in the upazila; Oli Sardar, 23, son of Liku Sardar of Bilbaus village; Bahauddin Titas Shikder, 35, son of Aftab Uddin Shikder of Baka village; and Mahabur Gazi, 30, son of Bachchu Gazi of Barkalia in Kalia municipality.
According to mobile court sources, a team of Kalia police station personnel raided the crematorium area Thursday afternoon based on a tip. The four young men were detained on charges of cannabis use. They were later produced before the mobile court of Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Jinnatul Islam, who sentenced them to imprisonment and fines.
