The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former army chief General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning as part of an investigation into allegations that he acquired illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption. He has been asked to appear at ACC headquarters at 12:30 p.m. on September 14 to give a statement.
ACC public relations officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the matter Sunday.
According to a notice sent by ACC director Md Abul Hasnat, the commission has received an allegation that S M Shafiuddin Ahmed “acquired illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption.” A two-member team has been formed to investigate the allegation, with director Abul Hasnat as team leader and deputy director Mozammil Hossain as a member.
The notice states that hearing and recording Shafiuddin Ahmed’s statement is essential for a proper investigation of the allegation. He has therefore been asked to appear at ACC headquarters at the scheduled time with a photocopy of his national ID card.
According to ACC documents, the investigation into the allegations against Shafiuddin Ahmed began on December 14, 2025.
General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed took charge as chief of the Bangladesh Army on June 24, 2021, succeeding General Aziz Ahmed. After serving for three years, Shafiuddin Ahmed retired on June 23, 2024. During his tenure as army chief, he also served as president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
