A committee has been formed to investigate allegations against Dr. Jahangir Kabir’s Health Revolution Limited over the death of a diabetic patient at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, after the patient was allegedly advised to stop insulin and instead follow a “keto diet and supplements.”
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) formed the committee on Thursday (Sept. 3) following a request from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s Department of Endocrinology.
The information came to light Saturday (Sept. 5) from DGHS sources. Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s Department of Endocrinology had earlier filed a complaint against Dr. Jahangir Kabir’s “Health Revolution Limited.”
According to a notice signed by DGHS Director (Hospital and Clinic Branch) Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, the DGHS has taken up the complaint that a patient died after following advice to stop insulin and take up a keto diet and supplements, and has formed a six-member committee to investigate the incident.
The investigation committee has been asked to submit its report, with a clear opinion on the allegation, within the next 10 working days.
The committee is headed by Dr. Mohammad Munir-uz-Zaman, principal of Sir Salimullah Medical College and professor of its Department of Medicine, who serves as convener, with Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, assistant director (Hospital-1) at the DGHS, as member-secretary.
