Gas supply to the national grid has increased, in line with various government measures taken to keep the energy supply normal. Under the coordinated management of the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), the supply of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been increased alongside gas from domestic sources. This rise in supply compared with recent days marks positive progress in the country’s gas supply situation, officials said. At 4pm on Tuesday, a total of 260.6 crore cubic feet of gas was supplied to the national grid.
Petrobangla director (operations and mines), engineer Md Shoyeb, said 260.6 crore cubic feet of gas was supplied to the national grid at 4pm on Tuesday. He said gas is being supplied by coordinating domestic-source production with imported LNG to boost gas availability on the national grid.
According to Petrobangla data, of the total gas supplied at 4pm on Tuesday, 161.5 crore cubic feet came from domestic sources and 99.1 crore cubic feet was supplied from LNG. In other words, a large share of the total gas supplied to the national grid came from domestic production, with LNG supply helping to make up the shortfall.
Petrobangla officials said production from domestic gas fields is continuing, alongside LNG supply as needed, to keep the national grid’s gas supply situation normal. This is having a positive effect on gas supply to power generation, industry, fertiliser and other key sectors. According to Petrobangla sources, the country’s daily gas demand is around 350 to 380 crore cubic feet. Against this, 234.53 crore cubic feet was supplied to the national grid yesterday (Monday), while supply the day before, on Sunday, stood at 233.19 crore cubic feet.
With Tuesday’s 4pm supply of 260.6 crore cubic feet, supply rose by 26.07 crore cubic feet compared with the previous day, and by 27.41 crore cubic feet compared with Sunday. In other words, a notable rise in gas supply to the national grid has been seen within just two days.
