Case filed against 64 Awami League activists in Chunarughat

A case has been filed naming 64 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations in Chunarughat, Habiganj. An additional 20 to 30 unidentified individuals have also been named as suspects in the case.

Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed the filing Saturday afternoon. He said the case was registered by Sub-Inspector Sumon Mia as the complainant.

According to the First Information Report, police received information that the accused were conspiring to destabilize the country at the residence of union parishad chairman Manik Sarkar in Purba Pakuria village, Mirashi union, under Chunarughat police station jurisdiction, at around 1:30 a.m. Friday night. Police raided the location and arrested Manik Sarkar. Other suspects fled the scene.

Among the named accused are upazila Awami League organizational secretary Manik Sarkar, president Akbar Hossain Jitu, general secretary Anowar Ali, vice president Md Rojob Ali, joint general secretaries Wahid Ali, Saiful Islam Rubel, and Sajal Das; former upazila Chhatra League president Mostafizur Rahman Ripon, president Rasel Mia, and former general secretary Sofiqul Islam Rubel; municipal Chhatra League president Samrat Mia; upazila Jubo League organizational secretary Mortuja Sardar; and upazila Tanti League general secretary Mizanur Rahman Babul.

Leaders and activists from the upazila-level Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechchhasebak League, Tanti League, and various union-level organizations were also named in the FIR.
