A young man identified as Md Forhad Hossain, 25, was hacked and shot to death by attackers over a prior enmity in the Arshinagar area of Dhaka’s Keraniganj. The deceased, Forhad, was reportedly a member of the “Alex Group” from Rayerbazar. The killing took place around 2:30pm on Tuesday (September 15) in the Arshinagar area near Basila Bridge.
Eyewitness and the victim’s friend Sakib said Forhad worked as a fish and cloth trader. In the afternoon, he was standing in front of a salon in Arshinagar to get a haircut. At that point, a group of attackers led by Sabbir, including Sagar, Habib and Arman, among others, suddenly assaulted him over the prior enmity. They shot at Forhad and hacked him repeatedly with sharp weapons, leaving him bloodied, before fleeing the scene.
Locals and friends rescued the critically injured Forhad and first took him to a local hospital. When his condition worsened there, he was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. The duty doctor declared him dead around 4:30pm.
According to family sources, the deceased, Forhad Hossain, was the son of Faruk Mia of Dularhat village, Charfasson police station, Bhola district. He lived with his family in a rented house in Keraniganj’s Arshinagar area. He was one of six siblings. He had married four years ago but had no children.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge (inspector) Habibur Rahman confirmed the death, citing the doctor. He said the deceased’s body has been kept at DMCH’s morgue for a post-mortem examination. The relevant police station has been informed of the incident, and police are taking further legal action.
