Professor Dr. Mohammad Masud Al Mahdi of the Department of Dawah and Islamic Studies has been appointed the new provost of Saddam Hossain Hall at Islamic University (IU).
The information was announced Tuesday (Sept. 8) in a notice signed by the university’s acting registrar, Professor Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman.
The notice said that as Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering had completed his term as provost, University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.K.M. Matinur Rahman has appointed Professor Dr. Mohammad Masud Al Mahdi in his place as provost of Saddam Hossain Hall, until further order. He will receive the benefits applicable under the rules for carrying out the additional responsibility.
Newly appointed provost Professor Dr. Mohammad Masud Al Mahdi said, “I believe the hall belongs to the students. Every decision, financial activity and expenditure related to the hall should serve the welfare of students. In providing any kind of facility from the hall for their development and for 21st-century, up-to-date education, students’ interests will be the top priority.”
He also said, “Maintaining the hall’s trust and its fidelity to students, and ensuring their overall progress, will be our main goal. The hall is like a family. There may be differences of opinion and thought here, but there will be no discrimination of any kind.”
University authorities have expressed thanks and gratitude to Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad for his long and dedicated service as provost of Saddam Hossain Hall.
