Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Md Shahiuddin Chowdhury Annie has called on young people to stay alert against drugs. He said the government is prioritizing education to build a drug-free society. He said drugs have been deliberately pushed into the country from neighboring nations to rob it of talent, and that those responsible are engaged in a plot to destroy the country’s image, achievements and talent pool. For this reason, he said, young people must remain alert and vigilant, and that prioritizing education can help free society from decay.
He made the remarks Saturday, August 29, afternoon as chief guest at a reception for students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations, held in Lakshmipur’s Sadar and Chandraganj upazilas. The event, organized under the banner of the Lakshmipur Society, was held at the Town Hall auditorium in the town.
Shahiuddin Chowdhury Annie said the government is running Bangladesh amid scarcity. He said the current administration took charge after the election, in the midst of what he described as a state of ruin. He said Prime Minister Tareque Rahman is giving considerable importance to education and health, and that ensuring an education system free of malpractice is part of the government’s challenge.
The event, chaired by Lakshmipur Society president Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, was attended by special guests including Lakshmipur University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Dr Hanif Murad, Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner S M Mehedi Hasan, District Council Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu, and Lakshmipur Government College Principal Prof Md Yousuf, among others.
