State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has expressed hope that the country’s power shortage will ease significantly by next summer. He said the government is providing entrepreneurs with various incentives for solar power generation, and as a result, the country will be able to generate at least 3,000 megawatts of solar power even before next summer.
He made the remarks as chief guest Saturday at a meet-the-press session held at the Jashore PTI auditorium, organized by the district administration, with head teachers, education officers and school managing committee chairpersons, on improving quality and ethical education and ensuring cleanliness.
On rising fuel oil prices, the state minister said: “Saudi Arabia is floating on oil. Why did oil prices rise there? Why did oil and gas prices rise in the United States? Prices are rising in the global market. In a country like ours, how long can the government avoid adjusting prices?”
He further said the government is still adjusting prices with the public in mind. For this reason, he said, alongside developing a sense of moderation among ourselves, we must also teach children to use resources in moderation.
Addressing the teachers, he said the foundation of moral education must be built from the primary level. Alongside ensuring cleanliness and quality sanitation at educational institutions, regular discussions should be held with parents to prevent child marriage. He said no student’s education will be halted for lack of money, and that the government will take responsibility for that.
Issuing a stern warning to his own party’s leaders and workers, the state minister said no leniency would be shown to anyone who uses party or political identity to exert influence or create disorder at educational institutions. He said that if anyone attempts this, organizational action will be taken first, followed by legal action.
Special guest at the event was District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon. The event was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashek Hasan. Others who spoke at the meet-the-press session included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Khan Masum Billah, District Education Officer Mahfuz Hossain, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahriar Haque, District Primary Education Officer Alamgir Kabir, and Jashore BF Shaheen School and College Principal, Air Force Group Captain Mezbah Uddin, among other teachers.
