President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the police force to work with dedication to maintain law and order and curb crime.
The president made the appeal Thursday when Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
The president noted that the current government is working to uphold people’s basic human rights and democratic rights. He directed the police force to continue taking effective measures to stop extrajudicial killings and to end the harassment of citizens through false cases.
During the meeting, the president called on the police force to carry out its duties in maintaining law and order and curbing crime with honesty, dedication and professionalism.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said police must be extremely firm in confronting wrongdoing while treating the law-abiding fairly and humanely.
He directed members of the police force to take appropriate steps on an urgent basis to establish the rule of law. The president also instructed the police chief to take effective measures against misinformation, disinformation and rumor-mongering, as well as cybercrime, mugging, extortion and drug trafficking, and to ensure the safety of women and children. He emphasized keeping the public regularly informed and conducting extensive awareness campaigns on these efforts.
During the meeting, the IGP briefed the president on steps taken to keep the police force’s morale strong and on measures for the force’s modernization and digitalization. He sought the president’s continued support in carrying out the force’s duties, and the president assured him of full cooperation.
The president’s military secretary and press secretary were also present.
