The United States is providing $2.4 million worth of medical equipment to strengthen Bangladesh’s health system. The US Embassy in Dhaka disclosed the information in a notice Monday. As part of the assistance, US Ambassador to Dhaka Brent T. Christensen handed over a maternal and newborn health care training model to Panchagarh district hospital civil surgeon Dr Md Mizanur Rahman.
The notice said the broader US assistance includes equipment to keep newborns warm and support their breathing, therapeutic food for severely malnourished children, and supplies to maintain vaccine effectiveness. Funded by the United States, these supplies and equipment are being delivered to hospitals and health centers nationwide, including in remote areas, through FHI 360, Jhpiego, JSI and UNICEF.
It further said the assistance, through evidence-based partnerships, supports strengthening the health system and advancing US health-sector innovation, in line with the “America First Global Health Strategy.”
The notice also said the United States is committed to working with the Bangladesh government to expand access to quality health care nationwide.
