Sylhet Battalion 48 BGB has seized a large quantity of contraband, including an Indian shotgun, ammunition and liquor, in a special anti-smuggling drive on the Sylhet border.
The goods were seized early on Thursday (October 1) in the Pratappur border area of Gowainghat upazila. No one could be detained.
BGB sources said a special operations team of 48 BGB raided the border area under Pratappur BGB on specific intelligence from Wednesday night (September 30) to early Thursday, recovering 300 bottles of abandoned Indian liquor, an Indian single-barrel shotgun and eight rounds of ammunition.
Large quantities of cumin, cattle, sunglasses, cosmetics, blankets, bidis, chocolate, fuchka and energy drinks brought illegally from India were also seized, along with spices, shing fish and other goods being smuggled from Bangladesh to India. The seized goods were worth an estimated Tk 1 crore 73 thousand.
Lt Col Md Nazmul Haque, commander of Sylhet Battalion 48 BGB, said BGB operations and intelligence work to protect the border and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking were continuing, and the liquor, shotgun, ammunition and other contraband were seized in a special drive as part of that. Further action under the law and prevailing rules is under way, he said.
