Two young girls, Maliha Jannat Mehjabin, 2, and Tania Jannat, 3, have drowned in a pond beside their home in Birampur upazila, Dinajpur.
The incident happened at around 9am on Thursday (October 1) in the Katla area of the upazila. Mehjabin was the daughter of Humayun Kabir of Uttar Katla village, and Tania the daughter of Tarikul Islam.
Local people said the two girls fell into the pond beside the house while playing in the morning, and neighbours later saw their bodies floating.
Sub-inspector Saifuddin Pramanik of Birampur police station said an inquest report was prepared after police were informed, and as the families raised no complaints or objections, the bodies were handed over to relatives without a post-mortem.
