National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari said the present government was not carrying out state reform, which was why his party had taken to the streets to demand it. “We will not concede even an inch to this government on the question of reform,” he said. “If the BNP government denies 75 percent of the people, it will not take long for it to fall.” He made the remarks to reporters before visiting the shrine of Khan Jahan Ali (RA) in Bagerhat at noon on Friday (19 June).

After visiting the shrine of Khan Jahan Ali (RA), he planted two saplings in the grounds of the Sixty Dome Mosque and offered Jumma prayers there.

On Bagerhat, he also told reporters that the Sheikh family had once held a kind of reign there. “They did no work; they only siphoned off money,” he said.

Local NCP leaders and workers and administration officials, among others, were present. Speaking with reporters, Nasir Uddin Patwari set out the party’s position on state-reform activities, the ongoing trial process against Awami League leaders and workers, and loan defaulters, and expressed his party’s views on reform. He also answered reporters’ questions on the government’s activities and various aspects of national politics.

At the end of his visit, he highlighted the importance of Bagerhat’s historical and religious structures and called for a collective effort by all to preserve the region’s heritage, urging everyone to cooperate on how these historical structures could be conserved.
