Simon takes first place in Jessore Board

Kushtia Zilla School student Simon secured first place in the Jessore Board with the highest score of 1,222. Students from the same school, Ahad Hossain Prince and Zukhruf Hasnain, jointly took third place with 1,220, while a student of Khoksa Janipur Government Secondary School took second place with 1,221, according to reports. The result has caused a major response in educational circles and brought praise to the institution and its students.

Gifted student Samiul Haque Simon of Zilla School secured first place in the Jessore Secondary Education Board with the highest score of 1,222.

Simon’s father, Rakibul Haque, general manager (administration) of Jil Bangla Sugar Mills, said information from different boards showed that his son had passed with the highest score in the Jessore Board. Kushtia Zilla School headteacher Munsi Kamruzzaman said Simon had achieved the board’s highest score of 1,222 and wished him success. He added that two other Zilla School students had jointly taken third place.

Anisur Rahman, a former Kushtia Zilla School teacher and current Chuadanga district secondary education officer, said Jessore Zilla School student Mahim had taken fourth place with 1,219. He said he learned from the headteacher of Khulna Zilla School that two of its students had scored 1,215.

He added that Maisha of Jessore Government Girls’ School had taken first place among girls in the Jessore Board with 1,216. After seeing Simon’s mark sheet showing 1,222, he said, it appeared to be the board’s highest score.

The Jessore Board deputy controller of examinations (secondary) said the board had not been able to prepare a merit list and therefore had no specific information about rankings.

This reporter spoke with Simon at his flat on PTI Road in Kushtia town. Simon thanked the Almighty and said he had studied with discipline. He attributed the desired result to concentrating on his studies instead of wasting time.

He said his parents and schoolteachers had supported him and that it was impossible to achieve good results without seriousness. Alongside his studies, he has won a national-level medal in the mathematics olympiad. Medals and crests from different competitions were visible in a display cabinet at home. Simon spends his free time reading books.

Simon’s mother, Shamima Ahmed, said he had always performed well in his studies and had now secured first place in the Jessore region. The family was very happy and hoped he would achieve even better results and bring them greater honour.

Simon spends his free time studying regularly and reading books and hopes to pursue a higher degree at BUET. His mother works at the Department of Social Services. His father said the family was delighted and satisfied with the result and credited Simon’s talent, confidence, hard work, perseverance and discipline. Simon dreams of becoming a scientist and contributing to the country. He said Simon’s mother deserved much credit for encouraging him to study.
