Education Desk:
Two Dhaka University students were accused of homosexuality. They were residents of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall in the 2025-26 academic year. They were permanently expelled after the allegations emerged.
The expelled students were Afif Hasan Nirob and Ariful Haque Shuvo. Afif Hasan Nirob is a 2025-26 student in the Department of Islamic History and Culture and is from Gopalganj. Ariful Haque Shuvo is a 2025-26 student in the Department of Marketing and is from Netrakona.
Ahmed Al Sabah, general secretary of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall union, confirmed the matter in a statement.
He said the hall had taken the strictest administrative action after finding evidence of a serious violation of social discipline involving the two residents. They were permanently expelled and immediately removed from the hall in the presence of their local guardians.
He said the matter did not end there: the process of taking further disciplinary action through the university administration was continuing, as was the process of referring cancellation of their university studentships to the appropriate authorities.
It was learned that after the first complaint, Ahmed Al Sabah applied to the administration for punishment on behalf of the complainant. An investigation committee was then formed, and the students were brought under the maximum punishment after what the hall described as conclusive evidence.
Earlier, on Thursday (July 30), a student detained over allegations of involvement in homosexuality at Dhaka University’s Masterda Surya Sen Hall was permanently expelled. In the presence of the university administration, he was handed over to his department’s student adviser. Assistant Proctor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam confirmed the information.
