Police in Habiganj’s Lakhai recovered 122 packets of cannabis after searching beneath a chicken coop at a residence. A woman, identified as Saleha Begum, alias Abuni, 45, was arrested along with 450 grams of cannabis.
The arrested Saleha Begum is the wife of Bacchu Mia of Teghoria Uttar village in the upazila.
According to police sources, based on a tip-off, a team of police led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Manik Saha raided Saleha Begum’s residence around 10:10 p.m. Friday (Sept. 4, 2026). During the raid, officers grew suspicious and dug into the ground inside a chicken coop in the house, recovering a container. Upon opening and searching it, they found 122 packets of cannabis inside, weighing a total of 450 grams.
SI Manik Saha said Saleha Begum was arrested on the spot on charges of direct involvement in the drug trade. The recovered cannabis was seized and a case filed against her under the Narcotics Control Act.
Meanwhile, this novel method of hiding drugs beneath a chicken coop at a residence has caused a stir in the local area, with residents discussing the discovery widely.
Lakhai police station’s officer-in-charge said regular anti-drug operations are continuing, with police working to identify and swiftly bring to justice those involved in storing, buying, selling and supplying drugs in the area.
