A 52-year-old man, Rabiul Islam, was killed after being struck with a stick by his niece’s husband, Lutfor, following a dispute over a children’s football game in Jhinaidah’s Maheshpur. The incident occurred Saturday (Sept. 5) afternoon in Jadabpur village in Maheshpur upazila.
The deceased, Rabiul Islam, was the son of the late Amin Uddin Mridha of the same village.
Police and relatives said a scuffle broke out between Rabiul’s son and the son of his relative Lutfor over a children’s football game. Following this, an enraged Lutfor grabbed a stick and left his house to beat Rabiul’s son.
At one point, Rabiul Islam stepped in to intervene, and Lutfor struck him hard with the stick. He was severely injured and collapsed to the ground. Immediately after the attack, the accused Lutfor fled the scene.
Locals then rescued him and tried to take him to the hospital, but he died on the way. The accused Lutfor has remained on the run since the incident.
Maheshpur police station’s officer-in-charge, Azad Rahman, said the killing arose from a minor dispute over children playing. He said the accused Lutfor has been in hiding since the incident, and multiple police teams have launched operations to arrest him. He said the victim’s family is preparing to file a case over the matter.
