2 killed after dump truck hits auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh

A sand-laden dump truck struck a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Trishal, Mymensingh, killing the driver and one other person. Four others were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred on the Mymensingh-Gafargaon road at Kanihari Tirkhi Kalirbazar area in the upazila on Monday (September 14) afternoon.

The deceased auto-rickshaw driver, Jasim, 38, was the son of Md Mofiz Uddin of the Sutiakhali area, ward 23, Sadar upazila.

An unidentified passenger also died while under treatment at hospital.

Police and local sources said the passenger-carrying CNG auto-rickshaw was travelling from Mymensingh to Gafargaon when it was hit by an oncoming sand-laden dump truck at Tirkhi area. The auto-rickshaw was crushed, killing the driver on the spot. Fire service personnel arrived at the scene after being informed and rescued five injured people, sending them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Trishal police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mansur Ahmed said one person died at the scene, with another dying after being taken to hospital. Legal action will be taken over the incident, he said.
