Two children drowned in separate unions of Bhola Sadar upazila after going missing while playing in their yards.
The incidents occurred Monday (Sept. 7) morning in the upazila’s Bapta and Alinagar unions.
The deceased children are Abdullah, 2 1/2, the only son of businessman Shafiq of the Voter Ghar area in Bapta union, and Abdur Rahman, 1, of Sachia village in Alinagar union.
According to family members and local sources, both children were playing in their own yards Monday morning. When family members noticed them missing a short time later, they began searching the surrounding area. Eventually, searching a nearby pond and ditch, they found the two children in the water. Locals then helped recover them.
Locals said the bodies of the two children were spotted floating in the pond and ditch water around midday, and family members were alerted. Relatives rushed them to Bhola Sadar Hospital, where the attending physician declared both children dead.
Mohammad Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhola Sadar Model police station, said that since the families had no complaints, the bodies of both children were handed over to relatives after completing legal formalities.
