Upazila authorities in Bakshiganj, Jamalpur, have fined a trader named Dulal Mia 20,000 taka for stockpiling fertilizer without a license and selling it at inflated prices. Seventy-two sacks of fertilizer were also seized from his warehouse.
The fertilizer was seized during a raid on Dulal Mia’s shop and warehouse in the Okuler Mor area of Bogarchar union around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Aminul Islam said the operation followed reports that Dulal Mia had for some time been illegally stockpiling fertilizer without a license and selling it at inflated prices. The raid recovered 64 sacks of DAP and 8 sacks of urea fertilizer from the warehouse. The seized fertilizer will later be sold to upazila farmers at a fair price. The operation was led by Bakshiganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asma Ul Husna and Upazila Agriculture Officer Aminul Islam.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asma Ul Husna said there was no room for illegally stockpiling fertilizer and selling it at inflated prices, and that administrative operations against illegal hoarding and artificial shortages would continue in farmers’ interests.
