Bir Sreshtho martyr Lance Naik Noor Mohammad Sheikh stands as a bright symbol of Bangladesh’s independence struggle. His boundless courage, bravery and sacrifice in the great Liberation War remain etched forever in the nation’s history. His sacrifice continues to inspire new generations toward patriotism, courage and devotion to the country.
With due dignity and solemnity, Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) observed the 55th martyrdom anniversary of Bir Sreshtho Noor Mohammad Sheikh on Friday. Various programs were held at his grave near Kashipur BOP in Jashore’s Sharsha upazila to mark the occasion.
The program began with a state guard of honor at the Bir Sreshtho’s grave. BGB representatives then laid a wreath and paid tribute at the grave.
Following the tribute, a recitation of Fatiha and a special prayer were held seeking forgiveness for his soul. The prayer also sought forgiveness for the souls of all martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War, and peace, prosperity and welfare for the country and the nation. Tabarruk was then distributed among those present.
The event was attended by officers and members of Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) at various levels, members of Bir Sreshtho Noor Mohammad Sheikh’s family, local public representatives, people from various walks of life who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War, and other dignitaries.
Speakers said the nation would forever remember with reverence the courage and sacrifice Bir Sreshtho Noor Mohammad Sheikh demonstrated in defending the country’s independence and sovereignty. By saving his comrades’ lives and sacrificing his own in confronting the enemy, he set a unique example in the history of the Liberation War.
Lance Naik Noor Mohammad Sheikh was martyred on Sept. 5, 1971, fighting Pakistani forces in a frontal battle in the Sharsha border area of Jashore. In recognition of his extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the great Liberation War, the government of Bangladesh honored him with the country’s highest military honor, “Bir Sreshtho.”
Every year on his martyrdom anniversary, this heroic freedom fighter is remembered with deep reverence through tributes at his grave and various programs.
