BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said those who attack women are cowards, calling the attack by Awami League activists on actress Azmeri Haque Badhon in Italy a despicable crime.

He made the remarks to reporters Wednesday around 11 a.m. after paying floral tribute at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Uddyan, marking the founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal.

He said women and children suffered the most abuse, humiliation and torture during the era of fascism.

The Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal protested against that oppression.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said women who wrote on social media during the Awami League era were also persecuted.

On the energy crisis, he said it was an international issue that no single country could resolve on its own, adding that the gas crisis would gradually ease.

He also said Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has taken landmark initiatives on overseas employment.
