A court in Nilphamari has sentenced Mokhsed Ali Pramanik, 56, to life imprisonment with hard labour for raping a second-grade student. He was also fined 50,000 taka. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday (September 16) afternoon by Masud Karim, judge of the Child Violence Suppression Tribunal at the district judge’s court (senior district and sessions judge).
The convicted, Mokhsed Ali Pramanik, is the son of the late Bachra Pramanik of Dakshin Sonakhuli Tahshildar Para village in the district’s Syedpur upazila. According to court sources, on the afternoon of August 29, 2025, the second-grade student was playing in the yard with Mokhsed’s granddaughter. Taking advantage of the house being empty at the time, Mokhsed called the child inside, telling her he needed help mopping the floor. He then raped the child, according to the case allegations.
The victim later informed family members of the incident, after which her father filed a case at Syedpur police station. The court delivered its verdict within a year of the case being filed, after completing the process of taking evidence.
The victim’s father, who was the case’s plaintiff, said: “We thank the judiciary for delivering the verdict so quickly. If victims can get justice this fast, incidents like rape will decrease. We are satisfied with this verdict.”
Confirming the matter, public prosecutor (PP) of the Child Violence Suppression Tribunal, Asaduzzaman Khan Rino, said: “As the allegation was proven under section 9(1) of the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act, 2000, the court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment with hard labour along with a fine of 50,000 taka. The judge delivered this verdict after completing the process of taking evidence within just one year.” He added that the court had ordered the fine money to be given to the victim, and that the victim’s father had expressed satisfaction with the verdict, thanking the judiciary and the government for concluding the trial swiftly.
