Mahabubul Islam, an uncle in Mithapukur, Rangpur, says he is living in fear after his drug-addicted nephew subjected him to harassment and death threats stemming from a land dispute. He filed a complaint at Mithapukur police station Friday afternoon, seeking protection for his life. In the complaint, he accused his nephew, Saju Mia, of seizing his land, harassing him while intoxicated, and threatening to kill him.
Both the complainant, Mahabubul Islam, and the accused, Saju Mia, are residents of Baldipukur Hazipara village in the upazila.
According to the complaint, Mahabubul Islam purchased 12.5 decimals of land near Saju Mia’s house, and the land’s mutation has already been completed in his name. However, his nephew Saju Mia set his sights on the land and offered to buy it from Mahabubul. When Mahabubul refused to sell, Saju Mia grew angry. He has already seized part of the land and built a structure on it, and has tried to seize the remaining portion as well.
Mahabubul Islam alleges that Saju Mia is a drug addict who harasses him and threatens to kill him while intoxicated. He said he filed the police complaint seeking protection for his life.
Attempts to reach Saju Mia for comment on the allegations were unsuccessful.
Mithapukur thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ruhul Amin said: “We have received the complaint. Legal action will be taken pending investigation.”
