A new committee for the construction workers’ union in Chougachha, Jashore, has been formed, electing Shafiqul Islam as president and Mohsin Ali as general secretary for a three-year term. The committee was formed Saturday (September 12) afternoon at the union’s Chougachha office.
The chief election commissioner was Master Kamal Ahmed, headmaster of Chougachha Model Secondary School. Assistant election commissioners were Chougachha Press Club president Principal Abu Jafar and Advocate Haider Ali.
Other committee members are: vice-presidents Abu Taher and Wazed Ali; joint general secretaries Billal Hossain and Monirul Islam; treasurer Jamal Uddin; organising secretary Shah Alam Salam; office secretary Zainul Abedin; publicity secretary Shanto Islam; sports and cultural secretary Abdus Samad; and executive members Shariful Islam and Shakil.
Chief election commissioner Master Kamal Ahmed said the election schedule was announced on August 24, 2026, with nomination form sales on August 26, scrutiny on August 29, withdrawal on September 3, and symbol allocation on September 4, 2026. With no contesting candidates for 13 posts, those candidates were declared elected uncontested.
Attending the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members were former upazila BNP president Zahurul Islam; chief election commissioner and upazila Jamaat assistant secretary Master Kamal Ahmed, headmaster of Chougachha Model Secondary School; assistant election commissioners Chougachha Press Club president Principal Abu Jafar and Advocate Haider Ali; Chougachha Motor Workers’ Association president Anisur Rahman; Chougachha Press Club joint secretary M A Rahim; former union parishad member Yaqub Ali; and former Chougachha construction workers’ union president Mosharraf Hossain, among others.
